Underdogs Stony Hill, Hartford set for showdown in Ann-Marie Vaz football final

Underdogs Stony Hill FC waltz into the final of the Ann-Marie 'Action Ann' Vaz- sponsored night football competition on Sunday, defeating favourites Central 5-4 on penalties, following a 1-1 full-time scoreline.

Stony Hill, who were already guaranteed a second-place finish and prize money of $100,000 will face the winners of the first semifinal, Hartford, who on May 10 turned back the challenge of Strike Force 5-2.

The final will be played on May 18 under lights at Carder Park with Stony Hill seeking to continue their dream run against the formidable Hartford, who will go into the championship decider as the favourites .

Member of Parliament Ann-Marie Vaz, sponsor of the competition, stated that the night football is all about providing entertainment for community residents, and also to ensure that good relations continue to exist among fans, irrespective of their political affiliation.

"This league will conclude on May 18 and therefore we will have to come up with another sporting event afterwards to ensure that the park is utilised, and to continue to provide night entertainment for the people, "she said.

The winning team will pocket $300,000 and a trophy; second place $100,000 and a trophy, third place $75,000 and a trophy, and fourth place $35,000 plus a trophy. Additionally, the most disciplined team, leading goalscorer and best goalkeeper will each get $10,000 and a trophy.
