Roma set to seal Bailey signing from Aston Villa
ROME, Italy:
AS Roma are on the verge of finalising the signing of Leon Bailey from Aston Villa, with the Jamaican international expected to arrive in Rome today to complete the remaining details of his transfer.
The deal, negotiated between the two clubs, will see Bailey join Roma on an initial loan with a three million euro fee, followed by a potential permanent move for an additional EU20 million if certain conditions are met.
The 28-year-old was notably absent from Villa's matchday squad in their season-opening 0-0 draw against Newcastle United, further fuelling speculation over his imminent departure.
With negotiations in the final stages, an official announcement is anticipated in the coming days.
Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini is eager to integrate the former Bayer Leverkusen attacker into his squad ahead of their Serie A opener against Bologna on Saturday.
Bailey, known for his pace and creativity, could provide a significant boost to Roma's attacking options as they look to mount a strong campaign in Italy's top flight.
The former Genk player is also expected to be a key player for Reggae Boyz coach Steve McClaren for the crucial upcoming World Cup qualifiers away to Bermuda and at home to Trinidad and Tobago in early September.
