Neighbour causing trouble in my marriage

Dear Pastor,

I am just writing to you to let you know that I have been reading your column. I enjoy your column and I have been listening to you at nights. Many times, you put me to bed. I miss the repeats at nights. I am married, but my husband is away. Sometimes my brother drops by and spends the night, and someone called my husband and told him that I had a man in the house. I was asleep when the phone rang, and it was my husband.

He asked if so-and-so who was there with me was my brother, and I told him yes, he was at the house. I asked him why, and he said that he got a call that I have a man in the house, and from the description of the man, he knew that it was my brother.

I was so shocked. I told my husband to hold on, and I woke up my brother and told him to talk to my husband.

We laughed about it, but I trembled because it was a neighbour who called my husband and told him that I had a man in my house, giving the impression that I was cheating on my husband.

You see how people are not good and how they could destroy the relationship that I have with my husband?

I don't know if my husband has ever cheated on me, but I have never cheated on him. When my brother comes here, he drives his car and he parks it in our yard. He doesn't hide to come in.

I didn't think that I had to tell the entire neighbourhood that he is my brother. The girl who called my husband and told him that I had a man in my house likes my husband, but she always talks to me very well.

I did not know that she would do that to me. So these days when I see her, I say, "hi" and "bye". And the thing is, she has a man. I don't know if she has ever cheated on him, but I have never cheated on my husband.

Dear S.T.,

You will have to learn that some people are mischief makers and perhaps this girl who called your husband that night likes your husband and will do everything to cause both of you to break up.

On the other hand, she might believe that as a good friend of your husband's, she has a duty to tell him about this man she saw going to his house.

I am glad that your husband is a wise man and that he trusts you, and I hope that he will never let this woman know that he told you that she is the person who informed him about you. I hope that she will learn to mind her business.
