I am nervous about getting married

Dear Pastor,

I am 29 years old and my boyfriend is also 29. We have been living together for three years and recently he suggested that we should get married.

I am nervous about getting married because I have two sisters and they got married and their relationships have not worked. On top of that, my two sisters are Christians. I am not a Christian, but I thought that as Christians, my sisters would have love for their husbands and try to please them. Their husbands were always complaining that my sisters have more time for the church and they do not spend enough time with them.

One of my sisters said that she would love to preach and she feels that it is her calling. When she met her husband, that was not an issue. Now all of a sudden, that has become an issue. I do not want to get married and eventually have to get divorced. My boyfriend and I get along very well and we do everything together. He is a good cook, so he does most of the cooking. I earn more than he does, but that is never an issue.

We are hoping that we can tie the knot in January. We want to have a small wedding and start a family right away.

I am sorry to hear that your sisters are not getting along well with their spouses.

They should endeavour to go for counselling sessions. And you should not be afraid to get married because their relationships are not successful. I wish you and your boyfriend well.
