St Aubyn's Hope Foundation spreading kindness

The death of a member of a St Catherine family has resulted in the formation of the Saint Aubyn's Hope Foundation, which benefits others through acts of kindness.

"We started this foundation in memory of my brother, who was killed, and also my sick daughter Hope. We realise it has grown over the five years. We will continue to give back, as it is a way to bring joy to the faces of many," said chief organiser Theresa Christie.

To make it a holistic experience, Christie said there is now a health component (by Suretime Medical) which conducts tests and treatments for adults and children alike.

Last Sunday, the Glengoffe-based organisation held its back-to-school fair and elderly treat.

During the day's activities, more than 500 persons from Glengofffe, Harkers Hall, Cassava River, Linstead, Above Rocks and surrounding communities flocked the Pentocostal Mission Church to be served.

Each child was given bags, books, pencils, shoes, a hot meal and also an additional bellyful of laughter and excitement from comedian and pastor Leighton Smith.

"I travel all the way from Temple Hall to be here and it feels good, as my grandson got the books, bag and shoes he needed for school; it is a good feeling," Glendale Malcolm said.

His views were echoed by other persons who said that the donations are of great benefit to them.

" I am 82 years old and I am very glad that the doctors are here, so that while the children enjoy demself, I can get a check-up," Clara Ottar said.

The organisers said it will be a continued effort to give back to those in need.
