Alleged gunman ‘Zazzie’ shot dead in St Catherine

An early morning police operation in Frazers Content, St Catherine, ended in gunfire on Thursday after a man who allegedly opened fire on a police team was fatally shot and an illegal gun seized.

The dead man has been identified as 25 year old Remmar Walker, otherwise called 'Zazzie', of Middle Road in Frazers Content and Old Harbour, St Catherine.

Reports are that about 5:00 a.m. members of the St Catherine Proactive Investigation Unit and other police personnel were carrying out an operation in the community when the incident occurred.

Investigators say the team entered a premises when a man reportedly came out of a house with a firearm in his hand.

Police said the man was challenged but allegedly began firing at the lawmen.

The officers reportedly took defensive action and returned fire. During the exchange, the man ran back inside the house.

When the shooting subsided and checks were carried out, Walker was found inside the premises suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

He was assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said one MK111 Trooper .357 Magnum revolver containing three live rounds and two spent shells was seized during the incident.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the fatal shooting.
