Man charged after allegedly ‘buying’ phone with promise of a bank transfer

A Kingston man who allegedly tricked a seller into handing over a $128,000 smartphone by promising a bank transfer that never came through has been slapped with a charge of larceny by trick.

Charged is 20-year-old Damoy Tomlinson of Fisher Row in Rae Town, Kingston 16.

According to reports from the Elletson Road Police, Tomlinson contacted a man and arranged to purchase the phone, which was valued at $128,000.

Investigators say that about 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, Tomlinson met the seller along Upper Elletson Road where he collected the device and reportedly agreed to make payment via bank transfer.

However, the payment was never received.

The seller reportedly made several attempts to contact Tomlinson after the transaction but was unable to reach him.

A report was later made to the police and an investigation launched.

Tomlinson was arrested on Sunday, March 8 and subsequently charged with larceny by trick.

He is scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday, April 22.
