Marriage is a beautiful thing

Marriage is a beautiful thing. At various times in our lives, we have come to truly understand the depth of that truth, but sometimes we are not always able to put it into words.

In the recent film Shall We Dance, Susan Sarandon's character, Beverly, puts it into words for us when she said, "We need a witness to our lives!" There are billions of people on the planet. I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you're promising to care about everything - the good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things - all of it, all the time, every day. You're saying, "Your life will not go unnoticed... I will be your witness.

Some career-driven singles don't realise how lonely they can become after years of living solo, and before you know it there is a hole in your life that a dog, a cat or a car can't fill. But if after you have done all that, you find someone and get married, then you agree to be witnesses to each other's lives, and will discover that some of the greatest joys of marriage come in the everyday experiences that used to seem mundane. You will love the companionship of each other. You will love that you actually get each other, and the love of togetherness does not have to fade after the newness of marriage wears off either.

Togetherness doubles our pleasure

From going to the movies to having fun with the children if there are any, watching sports together or catching a Jamaican play, couples can have a blast together if they really become friends. You will also find that you'll try new things you might not have considered without some encouragement from the other. One han' cyah clap fi true.

Marriage makes us better people

The process isn't always smooth, but when two lives are combined through intimate commitment, the result is that two person's flaws are brought to the forefront. With God's help, the partnership of marriage can be used as a catalyst to mature our character beyond those flaws. You will look back on the rough times and realise that God was helping you grow into a better person than you ever could, if it were not for your spouse. Those of us who are married and have fought to keep it together and are together loving it, shudder to think where we would be now if we had not married our spouse.

We have a sincere fan

When I am speaking in front of an audience, my local Church or another public engagement, my eyes always stop when I see one face, my husbands'. I am up there speaking and I see him watching me. That means so much. He always believes in me, his eyes say, "You can do it. I love you. You are the best!'. I know he doesn't just admire my speaking ability, he admires the person I am, inside and out. As spouses continually pursue and attract each other over the years, they build a healthy heat supply that ignites in the space between them.
