Foundation to start in memory of Luciano's son
Grammy-nominated artiste Luciano and his family are planning to set up a foundation in memory of his son , Menelik McClymont.
Sonia Sterling, Menelik's stepmother, said, after the funeral, the family will focus its attention on establishing a foundation to speak out against violence in a bid to keep his memory alive.
"He was too important to us, too special for him to just go like that, so after the funeral we are thinking of starting a foundation in his name," she said.
"I want to maybe do a little show, or something, and donate the funds to this foundation so we can help people affected by acts of violence. We have not thought through how the whole thing will work, but we know we want to do something that people will remember him by."
Sterling told THE WEEKEND STAR the family is planning on giving McClymont a send-off befitting a blossoming star.
"Three weeks ago him say to me, mummy, mi ago buss big innu, mi ago be famous,' so mi want to give him a send-off to remember, one a star would get. Him woulda love that."
Though the final arrangements have not been finalised, the family revealed it was thinking of April 3 as a possible date for the funeral service.
"We were originally thinking of March 27, but that would be in the middle of the Easter celebrations so now we're thinking of April 3," said Luciano.
"Menelik was a nice, jovial youth, very God-fearing, so we want to put him to rest the right way."
They are planning to host the service at the Kencott Seventh-day Adventist Church with interment at Meadowrest Memorial Gardens.
The family wants to thank all who have extended condolences and words of encouragement throughout its time of bereavement, especially from the entertainment industry, they said, have shown overwhelming support.
