Lybran bats for comedy in dancehall

Recording artiste Lybran, 'the Rumboss', is banking on social media to cement his 'drunk' character in the music industry.

According to the deejay, he is not a real drunkard, however, as long as fans are entertained by his work, his goals are being met.

"I have been in the music (industry) for some years now mastering my craft and I am bringing back the therapeutic laughter that pulls patrons, both young and old, to enjoy dancehall music," he said.

The deejay said he is heavily influenced by the work of iconic deejay Professor Nuts and hopes to fill the gap in dancehall where comedy and storytelling are concerned.

"People are saying I'm the next Professor Nuts. Some even say I sound like Tiger, and it's a great feeling when someone compares you to those icons. I want to bring back fun in dancehall," he said. "Some people may say it's gimmicks, but at the same time, the style is different and more enjoyable. I love entertaining people and seeing them laugh because of what I am saying over an authentic dancehall beat. That is what the '90s was about and that is what made dancehall win the masses."

The deejay recently released videos for his comedic dancehall songs, Rum Talk Part One, and Rum Talk Part Two.

He also performed at Reggae Sumfest for the first time in July and is gearing up to drop album in short order.

"Dancehall is laced with slack music and violent music, bad mind music and such. I just want to cut a lane for myself in the midst of this and bring music to another level. I just need the support of radio and DJs because we can't evoke change alone; we need the entire music (fraternity) involved," he said.
