Symatic learning challenges of music industry

Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall 2017 winner Symatic says now that he is beginning to understand the music industry more, he has realised that the life of an entertainer, particularly an up-and-comer, is no walk in the park.

The artiste told The STAR that he got a quick reality check when the competition ended.

"As an artiste who was a part of a weekly show, you can get spoilt with the free publicity. You are on the TV every week and people are constantly seeing you and hearing your music," he said. "However, once you are out of the competition, whether you win or not, you best believe that you will get the quickest wake-up call, because now it is up to you to maintain that relevance you got in the show all on your own. Jamaica is a competitive space and that is not easy. So before you know it, if you are not serious and determined, you will become a thing of the past."

The artiste said he has formed a team and is looking to use this summer to execute a strong promotional campaign behind his work.

"I know that artistes that are successful in talent shows rarely break into mainstream in Jamaica and I don't know why, but I am determined not to become part of the statistic," he expressed.

Symatic is hopeful that his single, I Remember, will help him cement his place in the music industry. He is also set to collaborate with Vanzo, the man he beat out for the top spot on the Magnum show.
