Dancehall artiste Shauna Chyn said despite popular belief, she has always been able to travel outside of the Caribbean.

The Control Button singer sent tongues wagging recently when she posted a video of herself heading to the 'Big City' as many believed the artiste was restricted from travelling.

In an interview with THE STAR, Chyn explained that with her career in Jamaica now finally at a place where she is comfortable, she has decided to take things further and target the international market.

She explained that the best way to do so is to connect with people in their own space.

"People love chat when dem don't know nothing about your life, so is just people did a spread rumours that I couldn't (travel) and other people believed it and it just spread further," she said. "I could have travelled if I wanted to. I just wanted to make sure that when I did, I had something to offer people. I'm at a good place in my career now, I have fans who want to see me and so now is the right time."

HER NO-SHOW

She further explained that she was also pushed to start travelling again after finding out that promoters were using her name to push their events without approaching her for bookings.

She explained that fans would turn up for an event she was allegedly booked for, and then the promoters would apologise for her no-show, citing her not having obtained travel documents.

"That's one of the main reasons my team and I decided we needed to sort this out ... (It) was looking bad on me," she said. "It feels good going out and meeting other people, especially in a foreign country when people did a say yuh can't do certain thing or yuh can't reach deh so. It was an experience. I got to see how dem over there appreciate our music."

The artiste also gave an update on her retrieving her US travel documents. Chyn, whose given name is Laniece Shauna Anderson, returned to Jamaica in 2013 after two years probation as punishment for possession of marijuana.

In a 2015 interview with THE STAR, Chyn revealed that travel to the US was possible again but said the judge ordered her to wait some time before submitting an application to retrieve her documents.

In one of her most recent interviews, Chyn said she's not worried about getting her documents back.

"You know that a go take some time. It's going to take more work from me. It's going to take me just taking the chance on the application and just telling the truth. I've travelled to Europe and now recently Canada so it will happen when it's supposed to happen. I didn't do anything major for me not to be able to retrieve it."
