Dancehall artiste Potential Kidd says 2019 will be the year he makes his grand return to the music scene to reclaim his rightful spot in dancehall.

The entertainer has been a figment of his former self for more than seven years, as he has been unable to follow-up on his 2011 successes.

In an interview with THE STAR, the Yah So Nice singer revealed that he has struggled to bounce back after being named as a person of interest by the police in 2016. He explained that although no charges were laid against him, being brought in for questioning relating to criminal activity in his community dealt him the biggest blow of his career.

At the time the entertainer was brought in for questioning by the authorities, he said that he was still reaping rewards from his breakout hit, and he was also being booked for shows across the region.

Now that he is trying to rebuild his career, Potential Kidd is urging the police to be more thorough in their investigations before naming people as persons of interest. He also wants those divulging news to the authorities to ensure that the information is accurate, as a wrongful arrest or mere association with any negativity could make or break a person, particularly those in the music industry.

PEOPLE JUST BAD-MIND

"Police must do research and be more careful with certain things. But police can't do dem work if people don't tell dem things," Potential Kidd said. "Is like a whistling bird start tell dem (police) things because dem feel like Potential never did fi a mek it certain ways. Di place weh me a come from, certain people believe say Potential nuh fi have things and make money. A just some badmind people make mischief."

He continued: "Because me thing a gwaan inna Trinidad yah now, me a hear say Potential dead. So people always a try fi get me dung because me is a very powerful guy inna me community, and me nah talk bout badness. People look up to me, so some people just bad-mind."

Despite his woes, Potential Kidd said that he is set to once again take the music industry by storm, as he has been working in silence.

"Because Jamaica nuh see or hear yuh nuh mean say yuh nah work. Me a get a huge forward over Trinidad right now on a song weh me do six years ago, so dat fi show yuh say Potential Kidd still have it," he said. "Me have a lot of music to release next year, and me just want the people to look out for big things."
