Music has always been medicine for Stephanie Williams, a Westmoreland-born lover of life, art and dancehall. While attending Petersfield High School, she participated in the school choir, marching band and the dance troupe.

She also sang on her church's youth chorale.

The 25-year-old Libran moved to Kingston several years to pursue a degree in nursing, but soon realised that her free spirit a known factor among people of her astrological sign, was fighting to fly into a different direction. That was when Medikk was born.

"The dream to become a nurse was by the motivation of my mother. I wanted to study forensic pathology and she supported the switch to medicine, but would soon have to the face the reality that I was more on the artistic side," Medikk told The STAR.

She continued: "Individuals who were studying nursing used to always urge me to switch to media and entertainment, saying things like, ' we understand yuh bright, but yuh fit inna media', because I was always doing the opposite of what is the so-called norm of someone working towards wearing the title of a nurse. If a lecturer was running late for class, they were sure to hear me playing music loud in class, once making their way to the door."

Medikk says she has been writing music since the age of 12, but her music career officially started in July 2017 when she recorded her first single, titled Mi Ride. She is now on her way to promoting her fourth studio single, a controversial and confrontational message to the opposite sex that's called Money Feelings.

"I believe in laws of attraction, so I am putting Medikk out there without focusing on the 'Cs' - competition, challenges or criticism. If a person truly wants to be a star, they must not approach the industry with the negative, or that is what will follow. I also don't want to make music for the purpose of making money and because it is my career choice for income, which only results in music being created in turmoil ... I want to make music that comes from a place of peace."

Acknowledging that the music business is a big investment, she has also invested in other small ventures.

"Yuh never know how long an artiste ah guh stay hot, I am diving 100 per cent in music, but the reality is, you need money to be a hot and trending female artiste...and I am not going to be one of those females that end up sleeping her way to the top, I am one that is ready to show my worth."
