Destiny Sparta seeking IG handle change
Former dancehall artiste Destiny Sparta said she has had people question her conversion to Christianity because of her Instagram handle.
The entertainer recently made the decision to change route from the dancehall world to the gospel realm but still goes by the moniker destinysparta_psychodoll on the popular social media platform. She said she has applied for a name change but says there is a process to getting that done and the latter takes time.
"I contacted Instagram support personnel and expressed that I wanted a name change," she said. "I was told to send a formal request and I have been sending the messages and waiting for them to make the change.
"They did not give me a timeline on how soon the change may happen, so I just make the submissions every day hoping it will speed up the process.
"My account is a verified one, so I suspect it will take some time. I was notified to send as much info as possible about the account so I also submitted a pic of my ID that I submitted to get verified. I haven't gotten any response yet as to when, so I just keep checking my email hoping it will come through one day."
The artiste said even though she has explained as much on her page, some users have been sending her rude messages about her conversion. She said the messages have left her feeling annoyed because she knows she has been doing everything to change her image on all public platforms.
"I get DMs (direct messages) about it (the IG name) all the time, and people even say my conversion can't be real if I'm still using the old name," she said.
"I understand why they would think that because the name doesn't represent anything godly. But after posting the reason and they still keep making the comments I get annoyed at times.
"I just have to remind myself that people will talk regardless, and that I shouldn't focus on that but on getting closer to the Almighty because he sees the effort I'm making."
Destiny, who now goes by the moniker 'The Matriarch,' says she has contemplated just discontinuing the use of that platform altogether, but says she already has a large following there and wants to use it to reach out to others with her new mandate from God. Still, she says image is important and if Instagram won't allow the name change in a timely fashion, she will be left with no choice but to create a new account, one that reflects her current lifestyle holistically.
"I'm now going to make contact with somebody to find out if they have any links can mek dem change it quick because I have the platform to reach a lot of people, and so I want to continue to use it," she said. "But if it is not changed, I will have to go ahead and create a new account. Image is everything."
Since making her transition to Christianity, Destiny has released her first single as a gospel artiste. The song Woke To A Sunny Day was produced by gospel label Andre Ok Production. It was released on August 20.
