Producer and engineer FlydieWise is passionate about doing music as a career. But, the St Thomas-based businessman also has a strong message for music industry players as it regards education. Not only is he urging the usual stay-in-school mantra, he takes it a step further and is encouraging the pursuit of higher education.

A graduate of Excelsior Education Centre (EXED) with an associate degree in business administration, Jarrell Oliver Edwards (his given name) shared with THE STAR that he found out that the statement 'knowledge is power' is definitely true.

"The whole education thing is a plus to anything that you are doing. I did courses in psychology, business law and economics while at EXED, and I would recommend this to anybody who want to make it in the music business," he said.

Psychology is Key

The CEO of FlydieWise Productions, who has been involved in music professionally for close to 10 years, added, "The psychological aspect is very important, as it helps you to deal with the different personalities who you meet upon daily. I have learned how to study the target market and implement the stuff that make a difference."

Perhaps it is this studious approach that has made him click with Chronic Law, who is also from St Thomas. He said that the artiste found his studio a few years ago by chance, and has since done many recordings there.

"Even when it is not my production, he will come here and I will take the voice. He can voice up to eight songs in one night, so you have to be able to keep the pace," he explained. FlydieWise described Chronic Law as his biggest success to date and has worked with him on songs such as Walk Alone, Scarface and Dreams.

6ix United, Cohesive

"I wouldn't say that I'm known as a 6ix producer, but I have worked with all of them. The 6ix is a united and cohesive force. The members talk to each other regularly and if one is doing a project, the others give him a strength," FlydieWise said, adding that Zizi 6ix is one of the few young artistes with a million views on YouTube.

He explained that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, he now has more work than he can manage. "It's a psychological ting. The 6ix are on top and I am affiliated with them, and so the demand," he said.

The producer, who calls Moffat in Trinityville home, said he did not have a specific objective when he started music.

"But now there is a purpose. I know that as long as I do good music the money will come. That is one of the things I took from a Bob Marley interview. I don't do it for the fame, plus I cannot let my mother down, so I keep it positive. The music is bigger than me; it goes around the world, and I am still here in my studio in St Thomas," FlydieWise said.
