Conscious reggae singer, Etana, has a brand new look and everyone is going 'Wow'.

She premiered the photo on her social media page this week and persons had to literally look twice and thrice, with brows knitted and mouths wide open.

"Like Nike, I decided to 'just do it'," the Grammy-nominated singer told THE STAR, laughing as she added, "It's been a while since people have responded to a picture like that. They are over the moon!"

While Etana has never embraced the locks that define those entertainers with her brand of socially conscious lyrics, she has still maintained a naturalness which is in keeping with her own spirituality, while carving out her personal space in the world of entertainment fashionistas. Recently, however, she took the bold decision to embrace her creativity and present fans with new visuals.

Etana assembled a team comprising make-up artist Nyvra Dorelus, hairstylist Aminda Rickets, and stylist Sashon Burton. She slipped into a dress by Melissa Dunkley of Mdiz Collections and called upon the skills of photographer Marvin Bartley, and together that gave the singer that 'wow' effect.

"I really wanted these images to come out just right," Etana said, adding that she was really happy with the response from fans. She admitted that her conservativeness has often clashed with people's ideas and the accepted norms that dictate how an artiste should behave and look.

CREATIVITY SHOW

"I am reserved and conservative and as a result of that, persons say that I don't act like an artiste. But how do I act like an artiste?" she asked. The singer, who released the album Gemini last year, and is on the verge of dropping another, Pamoja, says she decided to be a little more creative and let that creativity show.

"As an artiste, I depict life. My fans are from all walks of life and languages. I just step out and be me," she said.

Musically, she is in her zone, having just released Proppa, a collaboration with Ghanaian Afropop sensation Stonebwoy, and the first single from the soon-to-be-released album.
