Reggae-dancehall artiste Nyle Banks, who previously went by the moniker Fyakin, is surprisingly very relaxed about performing locally though he has been absent for more than a decade.

He told THE WEEKEND STAR that the name change was a necessary one.

"People couldn't find me online. The spelling of my previous stage name is unique, and most people would type or write it incorrectly, even producers. When releasing songs they would spell it 'Fyah King' or 'Fyahkin' and it cause too much confusion and was not consistent," he said.

He has also launched his own production label, Nyle Banks Music, through which he has produced and released two albums, an EP and a mixtape.

"Hiatus? There was no such thing. I've been recording and releasing music but since I migrated to the USA, I was more focused on the international scene," Nyle Banks said.

The albums Child of the Nile and New Wave helped the reggae-dancehall artiste garner a wider and more diverse audience. He is currently promoting singles titled Steamin and Chosen.

His last performance as Fyakin was at Follow Di Arrow in February 2011. The Thursday Night Live organisers invited the entertainer to grace their acoustic showcase last night for which he said he could not wait to give it his all.

"Fyakin is still me. And Nyle Banks is bringing authentic roots reggae music to the table that I am known for," he said. "I just want to show the consciousness and deliver the message that unity is strength. With unity we can move mountains."
