R&B singer R Kelly being sentenced to 30 years in prison for federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges is no warrant for disc jockeys to stop playing his music, says Boom Boom.

The popular selector and music producer told THE STAR that while he does not support the artiste, "he [R Kelly] has done some good music weh me, you and the world enjoy."

Boom Boom continued: "Anybody that loves quality music would not stop playing his songs." For many years, R Kelly was called the 'Pied Piper of R&B' and once had the 'King of R&B' title.

He has been credited with contributing to the evolution of R&B and he has had a dozen albums earn multiple platinum status. In Boom Boom's opinion, some of the songs are sure party starters.

"Don't fight the music," he said, adding that he does not advise any selectors, both local or foreign, to stop playing the now convicted sex offender's music.

"Why stop? Me know me nah stop play music, yuh know wah me mean. R Kelly have some classic hits me haffi play inna di dance...songs like I Wish and I'm A Bad Man," he said.

Popular wedding and events planner Monique Walcott said that she would not restrict any DJs she hires for events from playing R Kelly's music.

"Despite his actions, we can't deny the quality and like with any talented artiste, his lyrical ability. Songs like Step In The Name of Love opens almost every wedding dance floor. I Believe I Can Fly is one of the best inspirational anthems to be written and performed," Walcott said.

She expressed that there are far more criminals in society who have done ills and are still holding their positions because of their capabilities and skill.

"There are many influential persons, leaders and professionals who have committed similar crimes but are still actively utilising their skill sets on a day-to-day basis because it doesn't take away their ability to get things done. He's been sentenced, he's doing the time but his music is free," she said. "Maybe his music will face consequences, but no doubt, R Kelly remains an excellent singer and songwriter."
