"I have to protect my energy."

Dancehall star-on-the-rise KHXOS (pronounced 'chaos') repeats this statement several times as he opened up about his mental health journey. It is something that he believes helps with maintaining his focus on goals to become a successful triple threat music industry professional, all while learning to process new and lingering emotions.

"No one is perfect or knows the best way to handle emotions on their own, but over the past year I have learnt to handle situations better at all costs because it will only affect me in the long run. As an artiste, at times it gets difficult because part of the business requires you to socialise. But I tend to like to stay to myself and persons tend to not only get attached to your music, but everything you do, how you carry yourself and they have all kinds of things to say," he told THE WEEKEND STAR.

He continued, "I have never and will never set a goal that I want to be here or be there in my mental health journey because there will always be things happenings in society that will sway your mind or judgement. It's still hard for me to speak about these things. I don't know about self-love but I know about protecting one's energy to be cautious in how I deal with people and who I interact with."

One of his most challenging ordeals was losing his 'spiritual adviser', his grandmother Amanda Logan, who raised him after his mother migrated. Speaking about his first musical offering for the year, Fall From Grace, the artiste opened up that, "it came from a dream about her". Eager to pay homage to his grandmother, but not wanting to do the usual 'mama tribute songs', he thought it best to speak about his story of losing favour with God. The song is co-written by Qyor and produced by Robert 'Chubbz' Elliott of CEO Music.

"I was going through a rough time. I don't know if it was my subconscious mind or but a dream but it was as if she was here talking to me. I remember calling Chev [Qyor] at around 9 a.m., telling him about the dream, what she truly meant to me and why I wanted this song to be perfect for her. One thing we used to do a lot is pray or go to worship. I wanted to do something in the vein of me and her a pray," he said.

KHXOS, whose given name is Oshane Logan, is known for his witty lyrics, dynamism, and memorable hooks which is synonymous with his well-known singles like Tambrin and Melanin featuring Konshens. The prayerful Fall From Grace is delivered in KHXOS' usual style but it takes on a much more sombre tone.

"This song has a piece of my soul in it and carries a strong message, a message I would like to share with the world, that it's okay for a person to make a mistake. To fall from grace, that does not determine their life. There is always tomorrow and the next day and the day after that. I've used music to bury emotions, but this is me learning to use it in the right way and I want people out there consuming our music to not turn a deaf ear to the positive message," the artiste said.
