Surrounded by his friends, family, colleagues and supporters, Kabaka Pyramid could not help but smile widely and he arrived at The Summit in New Kingston on Wednesday to officially commemorate his Reggae Grammy win and celebrate his birthday.

Speaking with THE WEEKEND STAR, he shared that he was elated to be sharing this special moment with his people, and dedicated his birthday wish to the youth.

"It is a great feeling. We have been waiting long from February to celebrate with all our friends and family, and we get to do it now in April for my earthstrong [birthday] and it is a great feeling. The vibes is up, just a great time. (For my wish) we just want the youth dem fi wise up and get conscious and get aware of what is going on in the world and who is trying to manipulate them, so they can stay on the right path," he said.

The audience was packed with familiar faces from the entertainment industry who toasted the The Kalling singer as they posed for photos and exchanged hugs and other endearing gestures.

He also received the award for Album of the Year from the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA).

"We remember when Kabaka won the breakthrough artiste of the year award. I am so proud to present this to Kabaka, because he has done wonderful around the world and reggae is surely your calling," said Mary Issacs, director of JaRIA.

Among those who gave official speeches was Culture Minister Olivia Grange, who also used the opportunity to present Kabaka Pyramid with a copy of a book which she says is in limited edition on the island.

"I am here tonight to big up the rising star of this era, Kabaka Pyramid, one of the humblest artistes that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Sometimes when an artiste does well and good things happening for you, you get a bit egotistical. But Kabaka has just been the most humble person and that is what I admire the most about him. So I am to first say how good it feels to be with the man of the moment and the great group of brothers and sisters around him who are here to celebrate. This is a double celebration and it is also his earthstrong," she said.

Ronnie Tomlinson of Destine Media also spoke to the artiste's modesty.

"Beyond his music, Kabaka has proven himself to be an individual of great character and class. He speaks with honesty and wisdom, always encouraging his fans and followers to believe in themselves and their potential. Kabaka's contribution to the music industry has been immense and his passion for reggae music is evident in every note that he utters, in each song that blends reggae, hip hop and soul, and captures the hearts of millions worldwide," Tomlinson shared.

The celebration wrapped with a cake-cutting and performance from the artiste. According to him, this year is all about taking his music across the world on tour.
