Kurt Riley gives thumbs up to Malibu
Fresh from a successful staging in February of this year, the organisers of the Malibu party series went for a retro theme billed as 'soca nights' and got a stamp of approval from veteran disc jockey Kurt Riley.
The well-known disc jockey and producer lauded the team for delivering an excellent production and adding to the growing list of exciting events in western Jamaica.
Malibu was held recently at the Trelawny Multipurpose Stadium. The party attracted scores of patrons, who enjoyed retro soca, dancehall, hip-hop and R&B mixes.
"This event, like so many others I have noticed, the promoters are stepping up their game. From St Ann to Negril, they have upgraded their presentation, production, marketing and overall execution, and in so doing, western Jamaica is quickly developing into an entertainment hub. I'm seeing the people from Kingston coming this side for a difference," Kurt Riley said.
The disc jockey was among the persons entrusted with the responsibility of entertaining the patrons at Malibu. The others were Hyperactive Sound, DJ Marvin and YM Entertainment. He described the line-up as "very surprising", but noted that each selector worked in tandem and built on the energy from the previous set, thus making the party flow.
"No songs were repeated, and a wide variety of music was played all night," Riley said.
"I want to encourage the promoters to keep this trend going, as people are coming out to have fun and they're expecting this level to be maintained. Even if you have a new party, ensure that you come out the blocks looking good," Riley added.
