Teejay to headline Jamaica Independence event
Rozay Records, UpTop Camp and YM Entertainment have organised a host of activities to celebrate Jamaica's Independence to culminate in a mid-summer event, Drift on August 6 in Connecticut.
The event will take place inside the Creative Rental in Bridgeport, and Young African of YM Entertainment said the Jamaican Independence vibe is foremost.
"We are really looking to build a vibe around the actual Jamaican Independence in Connecticut and the Tri-State area," Young African said. Dancehall star Teejay, who has arguably the song of the summer, Drift, will be the headliner.
"We are basically going over the logistics and making sure that we have things in place. Also of equal importance is getting the word out to the public. People want to celebrate Independence and sometimes don't know where to go, especially here in Connecticut," Young African said. The promoters will also seek to enhance local Jamaican talent from within the state, giving them the stage to share with Teejay. Among the performers are Voltyg, Annanimus and dance J Different.
"Talking to Teejay a few nights ago, he is really looking forward to this performance. He has two shows coming up, one in Philadelphia August 4 and then Connecticut on August 6. Coming off a high at Sumfest, who wouldn't be eager to touch the international stage?" said Young African, a seasoned US promoter.
Producer Anthony Howard of Rozay Records said that it was his first time hosting an event, and they are pulling out all stops to ensure patrons feel like they are at home in Jamaica.
