Reggae singer and published author Sophia Brown is deeply committed to her role as a philanthropist.

"I grew up extremely poor, I mean bad poor; sometimes it hurts so much when I reflect on those days. However, God has blessed me abundantly and it would be very inconsiderate of me not to share with those who are in the same position I was [in] back then. Helping people who are in need, especially children, is something I am extremely passionate about," said the artiste.

Inspired by her niece Heidi Buchanan, who was born with Down syndrome, Brown launched the Angel Of The Hearts Foundation in 2015. Since then, she has worked closely with the Jamaica Down Syndrome Foundation (JDSF) to carry out outreach programmes o help children with Down syndrome in Kingston.

"Often, we are spurred into action when certain things affect those who are closest to us. After my niece was diagnosed with Down syndrome, I felt a deep desire to do something to help other children who are dealing with this condition," said Brown.

The Frozen singer recently performed at the Give Back Benefit Concert, which was held at the Coral Springs Center For The Arts, in Coral Springs, Florida, in March.

"I'm always happy to perform for a worthy cause, and this event was indeed very a very worthy one. All the artistes who participated were given a part of the proceeds to donate to a charity of their choice; I'll be giving my share to the JDSF to help them continue their outreach programmes," she said.

Brown recently took a break from her hectic overseas performance schedule to visit the island to wrap up the production of her Frozen EP, which is scheduled to be released this summer.
