Erup on comeback trail
Dancehall artiste Erup is making a resounding comeback to the music scene with new music and a new album which he described as long overdue.
Best known for his breakout hits Click Mi Finger (2009) and Gal A Ruh Dem Head, which dominated both local and international charts, Erup admits he's been out of the spotlight for a mix of personal reasons. But now, he is back - and ready to make a bigger splash.
"I never took a break. I was working and studying, putting in more work in the music business so I can open more doors as a creator of art and being an inventor," the entertainer told THE WEEKEND STAR.
"I am always there and I am just making a bigger jump for 2024 and beyond," he added.
Erup revealed that his new album, Frequency, was completed several years ago, but due to unforeseen delays, it's only now seeing the light of day.
"The album was done like nine years ago, but I decided not to let my quality work go to waste," he explained. "I think this album has all the elements of the evolution of dancehall."
The album's lead producer, LMR, has been involved in several projects, including working with Kranium on the hit single, Nobody Has To Know.
"Then he (LMR) began to work with fast rising upcoming artistes at the time (Jeniko). It was after her debut US and UK tour the producer found time to release my 14-track album, Frequency which was to be released in August but got pushed back to October 11," Erup explained.
In the meantime, Erup, who has the natural ability to blend R&B influences into his sound, is confident that his latest single, Sorry, will become a mega hit.
"R&B has always been a part of my nature," he shared. "I've been writing these types of songs from mi young, so I know exactly what to say because they're based on real-life relationships."
Erup said Sorry was originally written for another artiste, fate had other plans when he ended up recording it himself.
"I wrote it for someone else to sing, but they were on some foolishness, so when I got the beat from Andre Villa, I just sang it, and it fit perfectly," he said.
