‘Now is my time’ - Lisa Hyper ready to dominate dancehall
Dancehall artiste Lisa Hyper is riding a new wave of energy and confidence, declaring her career rejuvenated as she gears up for an electrifying year of new music and performances.
"Producers and other persons have reached out, and old producers are now voicing me again. The whole team is sharing resources again. Kartel has a budget for me and I am very grateful," Lisa Hyper shared, beaming with excitement.
Her upcoming single, Soul Cry, set to drop this week, promises to be a raw, emotional masterpiece.
"I didn't have to process my thoughts to write the lyrics, because Soul Cry was created from an experience; so all I had to do was go in the voicing box and record the experience that literally made my soul cry," she revealed.
Known as the 'Gaza Princess,' Lisa Hyper performed at the Vybz Kartel Freedom Street concert on New Year's Eve in Kingston. She admitted her career hit a rough patch during Vybz Kartel's 13-year incarceration, but his recent release has reignited her fire.
"There weren't many producers outside of the Gaza camp recording. It was a struggle," she confessed. "But I had to be patient and wait my turn. Now is the time, and I'm ready."
The 'First Lady of Gaza', Vybz Kartel's Portmore Empire, is known for songs such as Amazing, Money Don't Sleep, Sculpture and Nuh Frighten.
Now, with Soul Cry and her collaboration, Altitude, featuring Shawn Storm, thrusting her into the spotlight, Lisa Hyper said she is embracing both her unique style and industry trends.
"I will maintain visibility by adapting, like doing my body because 'dolly body' is the trend. I don't want to be like everybody else, but I also don't want to get left behind," she said.
With her career momentum building and her confidence soaring, Lisa Hyper is ready to reclaim her space in dancehall.
"As a female, I had to be patient and wait my turn. Now is the time and I'm ready," added the entertainer, whose given name is Felicia Gooden.
