Former Olympic athlete-turned-reggae singer Virgil Hodge is determined to make her mark on the Jamaican music scene.

"I've always felt a powerful connection with Jamaica because I grew up listening to a lot of Jamaican music. Athletics also allowed me to interact with many Jamaican athletes, some of whom I've formed long-lasting friendships with. So, Jamaica is very dear to my heart and I would love to make a strong impact over there with my music," she said.

The former sprinter, who represented St Kitts and Nevis at the summer Olympics in 2008, recently visited Jamaica to promote her new single, Can't Get Me Down. While she was here, she did several interviews with various media houses.

"I'm very grateful to all the media personalities who interviewed me while I was in Jamaica. They were all very pleasant and professional, I really enjoyed all my interviews," said Hodge.

The vivacious singer, who still holds the 100- and 200-metre sprint records for her country, gave the Jamaican audience a taste of what she can do on stage when she performed at the 420 Lounge in Kingston.

"I had a great time when I performed at the 420 Lounge, which is owned by my good friend and former Jamaican athlete, Michael Frater. My set was short and spicy, and the people loved it. They especially enjoyed my new single, Can't Bring Me Down. I am happy that my first performance on Jamaican soil was a success, and I am looking forward to returning soon," she said.

Hodge is currently gearing up for her first solo appearance at the upcoming St Kitts Music Festival, which will be headlined by Vybz Kartel and Jennifer Hudson. She's also working on two new singles.
