Accused car parts thief remanded

January 13, 2016

A man accused of stealing car parts valued at US$20,000 (J$2.4 million) was denied bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Allegations are that the accused, Wayne Morris, visited a location, placed the items in his car trunk, then attempted to leave with them.

TRUNK SEARCHED

A security guard at the premises searched Morris' car trunk and recovered the items, which included a car transmission, air-conditioning unit, and cooling fan.

In court, Morris' lawyer claimed he was disputing the value of the items, while noting that they were defective and were taken from a dump site.

Senior RM Judith Pusey responded by saying, "Unless somebody give him, a nuh fi him them, so he shouldn't have taken them." She further joked, "It sounds like he was about to open a business with all those things."

A fingerprint order was made. Morris is to return to court on January 15.
