WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James man accused of killing another during a dispute over the cutting of sugar cane in 2015 is to make his next court appearance on February 11.

Kevin Rose, from Mafoota, is charged with murder in the death of 26-year-old Romaine Stewart.

He was given the return date when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

It was disclosed that the court is awaiting a nolle prosequi document, to indicate the prosecution's intent to discontinue the case against Rose.

However, that document was not ready at the time the case was mentioned.

The matter was subsequently set for February 11, when the outstanding document is expected to be submitted to the court.

It is alleged that on February 6, 2015, Rose and Stewart were involved in a dispute over the cutting of cane. The dispute turned physical, and a knife was used to stab Stewart in his chest.

Stewart was later pronounced dead at hospital and Rose was taken into custody some time afterwards.
