Fined for lying to get US visas
Two youngsters, who lied to the United States Embassy about being employed to the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) to attain visas, were fined $70,000 when they appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Ricardo Burrowe and Shamara Davis pleaded guilty to the charges of forgery and uttering forged documents.
FORGED LETTERS
The court heard that Burrowe and Davis forged job letters
claiming that they were lawfully written and signed by the JFF. They then presented the forged letters at the embassy.
The lawyer representing both accused said they are aware their actions were wrong, but noted that they were only "seeking an opportunity overseas to better their lives".
Both were ordered to pay $30,000 or serve six months for the forgery charge and $40,000 or six months on the uttering a forged document charge.
