WESTERN BUREAU:

Five St James males who were arrested during an anti-lottery scam raid last June had their case set for mention on April 13, when they appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court last Wednesday.

Charged with breaches of the Law Reform Fraudulent Transactions (Special Provisions) Act, are AndrÈ Richards, from Rose Heights; brothers Arturo Clarke and Francois Clarke and their teenage sibling, and another teenage boy.

When the matter was mentioned, it was disclosed that the Communication Forensic and Cyber-Crime Unit report was still outstanding from the prosecution's case-file.

Resident Magistrate Sandria Wong-Small subsequently set the matter to be heard again on April 13, and extended the five defendants' bails to that date.

It is alleged that on June 25, 2015, about 3:30 p.m., a police team, armed with a search warrant, conducted a raid at premises in Grange Pen where the five were seen.

Two sheets of paper with identification information from overseas, and cell phones belonging to all the men were seized, and two of the phones reportedly contained identity information. The five were subsequently arrested and charged.
