$5,000 fine for ammo

February 16, 2016

A young man who was found with one round of ammunition in his suitcase at the Norman Manley International Airport was fined $5,000 when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court recently.

Eighteen-year-old Princeroy Davis pleaded guilty with explanation to the charge of possession of ammunition.

His lawyer explained that Davis had gone to visit his

mother overseas, and a family member, who is an ex-naval officer, was spending time with them. He claimed the bullet somehow got into Davis' suitcase without his or his mother's knowledge.

The presiding magistrate, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey, said she could fine the accused up to $200,000 but given the circumstances, the fine was set at $5,000.
