Do not take matters into your own hands -- Police

Despite being victims of praedial larceny, Jamaican farmers are being told to avoid vigilante justice.

"Do not take matters into your own hands. The police do not support unlawful acts", deputy superintendent of police Kevin Francis said.

Francis, who heads the Praedial Larceny Prevention Unit (PLPU), said that over 300 police recruits who are now in training are also being prepared on how to handle incidents of praedial larceny.

The senior cop met with sheep and goat farmers at their annual conference at the Bodles Research Station in St Catherine on March 17. He said that the Agricultural Produce Act is now being reviewed, and offences that would naturally attract a fine of $20,000 would move to $3 million.
