Popular Figure, Shanique Myrie, has announced that she has decided to step aside as the People's National Party's (PNP) representative for Olympic Gardens in the upcoming local government elections.

Speaking with THE STAR on Wednesday, Myrie said that she has "bigger issues" to deal with, and so, has opted out of representational politics temporarily.

There has been speculation that Myrie's sudden change of heart was brought on by marriage and migration, but she rubbished those claims, saying that she has always been married, and though she is currently off the island, she has not migrated.

She added that she still has political aspirations, which go beyond merely being a councillor.

Myrie became a household name after successfully bringing a free-movement case against Barbados. She was later awarded some $4 million in damages.
