‘Duppy Maker’ arrested for pastor’s murder
A 27-year-old construction worker has been charged in relation to the murder of a pastor in St Catherine.
Lamar Myers is charged in the killing of 41-year-old Michael Spencer of Dolphin Terrace, Old Harbour Glades, along West Street, also in Old Harbour on January 18. Myers, otherwise called 'Duppy Maker', is of a Burke Road address in Old Harbour.
Reports from the Old Harbour police are that at 8 p.m., Spencer was at his stall when Myers approached him. He brandished a firearm and opened gunfire, hitting the pastor in the head and upper body, before escaping on foot in the area. The police were summoned, and on their arrival the injured man was assisted to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation was launched into the murder, and Myers was listed as wanted two days later. He turned himself in and was charged following a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney. In addition to murder, he has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition and using a prohibited weapon to commit a felony.
His court date is being finalised.
