Elderly man falls to his death

A shroud of uncertainty appears to surround the death of an elderly man, who is said to have fallen to his death last Sunday at a plaza located in Christiana, Manchester.

Up to late yesterday, detectives from the Christiana Police Station said that the investigations are continuing, but has so far been ruled a sudden death.

The deceased man has been identified as 70-year-old retired accountant Freed Watson of Web Road in the parish.

The police's Corporate Communications Unit reports that on April 3 at approximately 9 p.m., Watson was at a bar. Sometime later, he was allegedly seen climbing over a railing where he later lost his balance and fell from the second floor of the three-storey plaza.

Subsequently, he as assisted by the police to the hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.

"We don't know because we understand that he has some issues," said a senior officer attached to the Christiana Police Station.

"We do not know if it is as a result of the issues or if he had been pushed or what. When the investigations are concluded, we will have something that we are better able to say it is a suicide. At the moment, it is being treated as a sudden death."
