April 22, 2016

The police have released the licensed firearm holder implicated in the killing of Constable Shane Francis in Ocho Rios, St Ann on Sunday.

According to head of the Area Two police, Senior Superintendent Glenford Hudson, the man was released without being charged, as they are awaiting a ruling from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the matter.

"Based on the statements we have gotten, we prefer to get a ruling from the DPP on how to proceed in the matter," he said.

Reports are that the licensed firearm holder and the 30-year-old policeman were at a party when they got involved in a dispute. Both men reportedly pulled their firearms, and the officer was shot in his hip and chest. He was pronounced dead at hospital.

Investigations into the matter continue.
