Taxi operators block Waltham Park Road over poor road conditions
Taxi operators and residents joined forces earlier today creating a road block on along Waltham Park Road in St Andrew to protest the deplorable state of the road.
The placard-bearing protestors gathered at the intersection of Waltham Park Road and East Road to press for the issues to be resolved immediately.
One taxi operator explained that "the water is not flowing as it should and what happen now is that the overflowing of the gully on the road deteriorate the road. So, what we are asking for is for the relevant authorities to come and assist us because this has been going on from last year."
He said the road was fixed late last year, but quickly deteriorated again because of what he described as the poor infrastructure.
"So we need them to fix the road and fix the road properly. Wi nuh want dem come and butter the road so when rain fall the asphalt wash off. That is waste of taxpayers' money," he said.
Another taxi operator lamented the costs to himself and colleagues for frequent repairs to their vehicles.
"Taximan alone a feel it round ya. Wi a buss tyre, wi a chop tyre, wi a change ball joint... wi a change rock end pon a Sunday and wi a bend rim and everything," he said.
The roadblocks were later cleared by firefighters and the police.
