Ten students at Ensom City and Eltham Primary Schools gifted tablet computers
Ten students at Ensom City and Eltham Park Primary Schools in St Catherine have been gifted tablet computers under the Government's 'Connect a Child' Programme.
This initiative aims to support academically gifted students experiencing financial challenges by providing them with essential digital tools for their educational success.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony at Ensom City Primary on Thursday (January 30), Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Honorable Olivia Grange said she was happy to be providing the tablets for five students from each school.
"I hope it will help them achieve higher levels of academic success and propel them to become prominent leaders and role models in the... society in the not-too-distant future," she stated.
Grange underscored the importance of the Connect a Child Programme, noting that it "helps to ensure that deserving students have access to the digital tools necessary for their continued academic success".
She further emphasised the importance of identifying and nurturing gifted youngsters at an early stage, adding that, "when we can identify children who are bright, hard-working and resilient early, we can positively affect the course of their lives forever".
The Minister urged parents and educators to recognise and acknowledge key traits in children, such as curiosity, significant vocabulary, original ideas and self-teaching ability.
Grange also encouraged them to guide these youngsters by helping them to benefit from initiatives such as the Connect a Child Programme that foster academic focus and skills development.
Meanwhile, she implored the students receiving the tablets on Thursday to continue striving for excellence and encouraged them not to allow social circumstances to deter their dreams.
"Continue to work hard to be the best that you can be. Keep reaching for the sky, but keep your feet on the ground," Minister Grange added.
