UWI killing commited by outsiders - police

Up to press time yesterday, the St Andrew Central police had still not made a breakthrough in the murder of a construction worker on the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, on Saturday.

The now deceased man, 42-year-old Kevin Miller, of Goldsmith Villa, St Andrew, was attending an event on campus, when an argument developed between him and a group of men, the police said. After the event, about 2:30 a.m., Miller was allegedly attacked by the group of men along the Gibraltar Hall Road, who used an object to inflict several wounds on him, then fled the scene. He died at hospital, the police said.

Head of the St Andrew Central police, Senior Superintendent Millicent Sproul Thomas, told THE STAR that information thus far is scant, but the alleged attackers are believed to be outsiders and not from the campus or adjoining communities.

Thomas said the police will be interviewing other construction workers who were said to be in attendance to get additional information about what transpired.

"I want to use this opportunity to ask the public whatever information they have that can aid us in our investigation, we would greatly appreciate it," Thomas said.

Investigations continue.
