Drunk elderly man crushed by car
An elderly man perished in a motor vehicle accident in the Portland Cottage area of Clarendon on Wednesday night when a car ran over his body.
According to information from the Clarendon police's accident and emergency unit, the deceased, 70-year-old Joseph Thompson, was lying on the roadway when he was crushed by the car around 8 p.m. He died on the spot.
An investigator told THE WEEKEND STAR that the deceased was reportedly drinking and may have been intoxicated when he was ran over by the car. "From our investigation, we don't believe there was any malicious intent on the part of the unit operator when he reversed on the deceased who was unknowingly lying on the roadway," the cop said.
"It's more of a case of a drunk man lying on the roadway and was run over by the car we believe."
