JAS ready for Denbigh show

President of the Jamaica Agriculture Society (JAS), Norman Grant, is exuding confidence ahead of the July 30-August 1 three-day Denbigh agriculture/ industrial show in May Pen, Clarendon.

Grant, who was updating The Star news team on the organising of the JAS' showpiece event, says with just over a month to go, preparations for the western hemisphere's biggest agriculture show is well under way.

"So far, I am pleased with the preparations for Denbigh 64. The ground staff are working round-the-clock to have the showground in the best possible condition," the enthused president declared just after a site visit to the Denbigh showgrounds.

"Right now, the major focus is on the general clean-up, and in light of recent development here, securing the property is priority number one," he insisted.

The long-standing head of the farmers' group, who was reacting to recent acts of vandalism on the showground property, informed The Star that the society has since entered into an agreement with the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), and the police to have members on the property regularly.

He also disclosed that the society has employed the services of a private security organisation to bolster it's security imperatives, and has opened the grounds to the general public from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

"As reported, we were having serious issues with vandals on the property, but we since allowed the JDF and the police to be stationed here, so the security issues have improved," he revealed.
