Possible award for quick acting cop

A quick-acting police officer, who aided in the capture of a murder suspect while off duty in St James on Sunday, might be up for an award for his noble actions, his divisional commander, Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth, told THE STAR.

"He is to be commended, and me might just put him up for a Heroes' Day type of award come October," Nesbeth said.

According to reports from the police's Corporate Communications Unit, the officer was conducting personal business while off duty on Harbour Street in St James, at about 5:30 a.m., when a gun attack unfolded. The cop reportedly spotted the gunman boarding a getaway motor car, which he pursued, and called for backup.

He, along with the responding unit, captured the driver of the getaway vehicle. A second man, who was also in the getaway car, escaped.

The captured man is implicated in the murder of Carl Hudson, 37, of Bevin Avenue, St James, who was killed that morning.
