SCQ : Saved by the bell - St Mary stuns Ocho Rios in final seconds
"I came, saw and I conquered," were the final words from the captain of St Mary High School, Shavane Clarke, after his team defeated Ocho Rios High at the buzzer, in a nail biting School Challenge Quiz match.
This was the sixth match in round two of the competition.
Only one point separated the two at the final bell. The match ended at 17 to 18 in favour of St Mary. However, the grim look on the faces of the winners told the tale of what could have been a defeat.
St Mary's Clarke told THE STAR that "If we were a bit more prepared and executed better, there would have been a better outcome."
When asked about the furthest his team has ever gone in the competition, he said, "We have been to the quarter finals when we defeated Kingston College."
Clarke willed his team to victory when asked to look at a photo and say what it was and who was the author.
The photo was a scene of the last supper done by Leonardo da Vinci.
Dominic Waite, Captain of Ocho Rios High, though shocked in defeat spoke well of the encounter.
"It was a good match. It was nerve racking. It's our second season. I thought we would have won the match. We are going to prepare a team to come back next season," he said.
St Mary led from the opening challenge, however it was not until deep into the exciting buzzer section that Ocho Rios crawled their way to the front, only to be out challenged in the final second of the contest.
