Woman burns lover's mattress, money
A woman, who hauled her partner's mattress on to the streets and burnt it along with $20,000 that was stashed under it, got off the hook when she appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court last Friday.
Angella Brown, and her lover, Alton Davis, both appeared in court in a cross case, as both were slapped with charges arriving from an incident that occurred earlier this year.
The prosecution told the court that there was a dispute between the two, during which Davis punched Brown the face, causing pain and swelling. The impact of the punch also caused her to fall to the ground. During the fracas, Davis also broke Brown's standing fan.
Pleaded guilty
The prosecution further said Brown became enraged and pulled her lover's bed on to the road and set it ablaze. Davis reported that he had a sum of $20,000 under the mattress, which was also burnt.
Following the ordeal, Brown was charged with simple larceny and malicious destruction of property. She pleaded guilty to the charges.
Davis was charged with malicious destruction of property, and assault occasioning bodily harm. However, just as the prosecution was about to plead Davis, an attorney intervened on behalf of the couple.
"It seems as if they are both close. They are spouses. It seems as if they have worked it out. They both want the matter dropped," the attorney said.
Presiding judge Judith Pusey then stated that no order was made in the matter, and the two were free to go.
