Fight over stove leads to broken arm

A St James woman and her two sons were hauled before the St James Parish Court recently after a fight with the woman's ex-boyfriend over a stove led to the complainant's arm being broken.

Claudine Morris and her sons, Romeo and Romario Campbell, all of Rose Heights in the parish, were offered bail on the charge of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

It is understood that Morris and the complainant were in a relationship, which ended in 2013, but the man was still allowed to reside at her house.

Allegations are that on February 25, Morris and the complainant got into an altercation over the use of a stove, and the Campbells intervened. During the altercation, the complainant's arm was broken.

In making a bail application for the three defendants, their attorney, Lavern Walters, told Parish Judge Sandria Wong-Small that the complainant was the aggressor in the incident.

"There was an altercation involving the use of a stove, and the complainant attacked one of the brothers with a machete. Residents pulled him off the young man, and he (complainant) fell and broke his arm," said Walters.

The court was also told that the medical certificate was not ready.

Wong-Small offered bail to each of the three defendants in the sum of J$150,000 with three sureties and ordered them to report to the police once per week. They were also told to submit their fingerprints.

The case will be heard again on May 10.
