Man claims 24-hour camera could help his case

A St James man pleaded guilty to assaulting a constable and using abusive and indecent language, but denied resisting arrest during a search of his premises, when he appeared in court last Wednesday.

The court was told that on June 15, at about 11 p.m., a police team was carrying out operations in the area when they went to the home of 23-year-old Romario Gayle in Cambridge, St James, and requested a search.

It is further alleged that Gayle began to behave boisterously and got into an altercation with one of the policemen, while saying: "You a one badmind boy, a something you a look fi thief."

He was subsequently arrested.

However, Gayle told Parish Judge Sandria Wong-Small that his altercation with the cop occurred due to the manner in which the police team was searching his house.

"They opened the drawers and threw the clothes out. I have a 24-hour camera set up at the house to show that I wasn't resisting arrest," said Gayle.

"It is no longer a joke thing, that sort of behaviour is not proper at all," Wong-Small replied sternly.

Gayle was subsequently instructed to return to court on September 28, when the matter of resisting arrest will be mentioned. The judge also requested a social enquiry report to assist in determining his sentence in the other matters.
