Man found hanging from tree

October 04, 2018

The Hanover police say the man whose body was found hanging from a tree in Watson Taylor Park in the parish on Tuesday suffered from mental illness.

Information reaching our news team is that the body of 23-year-old Matthew Taylor of March Town district in Hanover was found at about 6 a.m. on Tuesday, in what is suspected to have been an act of suicide.

Reports from the Lucea police are that residents found the body hanging from a tree and notified the police.

Superintendent Sharon Beeput, head of the Hanover Police Division, told our news team that the dead man possibly hinted at his intentions.

"He is a mental person who is also bipolar. I gather that on the same day of the incident, he returned from the hospital with a family member. They did not get the medication that was prescribed for him, and, therefore, the family went in search of the medication in Montego Bay. He (deceased) then told the family member that when they return they would not see him," Beeput said.

THE STAR understands that when the relative returned, Taylor was discovered missing. He was later found hanging from a tree.

Investigations are ongoing.
