J'can killed in Grenada over jerked chicken price

Investigators in Grenada have arrested four men who are allegedly responsible for killing a Jamaican jerked chicken vendor last week.

He was killed last Thursday for refusing to lower the cost of his popular chicken to suit the request of a potential customer.

Information reaching THE STAR is that 52-year-old Norman Power died from stab wounds he received outside the Grenada National Stadium.

Our news team understands that Power, who goes by the alias 'Yardie', was the operator of the Mobile Jerk Chicken Pit.

The Grenada police told THE STAR that Power died after he was stabbed during an altercation over the price of his chicken.

"He has a business operating that sells chicken. Somebody came to buy a portion of jerk chicken for EC$5 (J$236.37) and he told them he sells for EC$10 (J$472.73). An argument developed. The person(s) left and returned with a group and started throwing stones at the business place," said Constable Pauline Williams of the Grenada police's Community Relations Department.

Our news team gathered that Power chased after the boys and was stabbed.

The incident occurred about 5 p.m., and Power was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at 9 p.m. last Thursday.

The police told THE STAR that four men have since been charged with Power's murder.

"Four men were charged with non-capital murder. They went to court today. Presently, I am not sure of the outcome," Williams told THE STAR.
