Artistic mom makes concrete flower pots

Having been trained in fashion designing and clothing and textile at the HEART Trust/NTA, Kerry-Ann Hamilton has now decided to the move into production of decorative concrete flowerpots.

Hamilton, a mother of four, told THE STAR that her production started all by chance.

"I was at home and decided to make a flowerpot. After I mixed the mortar, I used a wet towel, placed into a bucket, and shaped the pots," Hamilton said.

The former Haile Selassie High student, who now lives in Old Harbour, St Catherine, said that she started to sell the pots to close friends and the business started growing.

"I am pleased with the progress of the business, although it is hard work. It helps me to provide for my children, plus I am doing something I enjoy," Hamilton said, while making the rounds in Spanish Town.

Meanwhile, the 39-year-old artist said that she is inspired by the late Edna Manley and will continue to do the artwork the continues to "put food on her table".

Hamilton, who supplies various businesses with her creations, said she also does papier m‚chÈ, and makes clothing. But she loves her latest effort.

She told THE STAR that although she is not a large producer, her aim is to improve her quality and quantity and to pass on her knowledge.

"I have started the concrete production about a year now. It has grown and I am making a living, and I intend to get a place to train others to help themselves," Hamilton said.
